This Friday, Sept 14, I will be playing some songs opening up the Green Day Tribute Show at The Well Casino Nanaimo. All information for this show can be found on the Facebook event page.
My teenage self is squealing in excitement! I’ve been a fan of Green Day since Longview first hit the airwaves (and in the days before Google, I found their first 2 albums, 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk, at the local skate shop soon after Dookie’s release). Dare I admit that I had the dudes plastered on my walls throughout high school? Yeah… I was THAT girl (no shame!). I also collected a LOT of their CD singles (which included demos of songs, some of which became singles on later albums). I LOVED being in the know as to what they were coming up with next. I’ve been a fan of Billie Joe’s songwriting ever since… he’s a hook-writing machine! I can absolutely say that Green Day has been an influence of mine over the years. I am so thankful for having discovered their music when I did.
I’m so much of a fan that while on a road trip to the Bay Area in 2011, I found the infamous Christie Road (after a surfing lesson in Pacifica),
ate breakfast at Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe (co-owned by Mike Dirnt),
and swung by the infamous Gilman Club, where Green Day debuted Kerplunk (and played many shows in their early career)…
There is so much history within those walls. I’m glad I had a chance to check it out (even if just from the outside).
I’m looking forward to seeing you on Friday!
